Mayka: Interim Shelter

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home—especially during life's most difficult moments.

Through A Place Called Home, AmPowering provides interim emergency shelter for individuals and families facing housing crises, including survivors of domestic violence, single mothers with children, youth and young adults, individuals experiencing mental health challenges, and those facing unexpected emergencies.

We work closely with a trusted network of community partners and referral agencies, including the YMCA, CARE Teams, Police Departments, the Consulate General of India, Seattle, and other nonprofit and government organizations to provide immediate support when individuals and families have nowhere safe to turn. Together, we help bridge the critical gap between crisis and long-term stability.

A temporary hotel stay can make the difference between safety and uncertainty. On average, one hotel room costs approximately $100 per night, with stays ranging from a few nights to several weeks based on each family's needs. During this time, we also connect individuals with essential services, community resources, and emotional support.

When families transition into permanent housing, our support continues. We provide household essentials, furniture, clothing, kitchen supplies, bedding, toys, and other necessities to help transform an empty space into a welcoming home. We also connect families with mental health resources, employment support, and community services to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Our long-term vision is to establish Mayka, AmPowering's own interim shelter facility - a safe and compassionate place where individuals and families can find stability, healing, and the support they need to begin a new chapter.
