New sarees distribution during Durga Pujo

On our mission and principles to support communities in need as #communityservantleader, our USA team AmPowering member and queen Miss India Oregon 2019 Dr. Columbia Mishra led initiative to fundraise to support low income families in India.
This was intentionally aligned with the most auspicious time of Durga Puja, when everyone in West Bengal buys new clothes. Unfortunately for most of the low income families this is the only time throughout the year they can afford to buy any piece of new clothing after saving for the whole year. With CoVID, 2020 is a whole different story. With our initiative, to her utmost delight, the beneficiaries were not just the women who received their new sarees during Durga pujo. This initiative resulted in the weaving industry workers to weave and create 150 sarees, infusing a new vigor amongst the hard working weavers, essentially supporting the workers and boosting the local economy.
When team in India tried to buy saree, they went to get it from this village, and they weren’t selling any saris as they had no funding and support. When they got huge order, the entire community of these weavers pulled through to deliver. It was a real festival for them to get this order and deliver.
This has not only boosted economy but supported women in need.
Many thanks to Columbia Mishra’s mom Minati Datta Mishra for all distributions through Rural Literacy Center for Women.
It’s our ongoing effort as our service to humanity!
